Binge With Me - Shows : Bandish Bandits
Bandish Bandits : Musical treat and “that” standout show in the pile of action/crime flicks.
Amazon's new show Bandish Bandits is familiar story but new take on Indian classical music versus pop music, family values versus survival struggles and love versus carrier priorities. This new show is pretty good and is totally worth your quarantine time!! Lets crack other worthy aspects of this musically fresh show.
This review may seem useless if we don’t talk about it’s exquisite music, Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy has done some beautiful work on the music and background score. Music in this film dives deep into your heart and comes back touching your soul. Classical Music is true gem of the series and if you don’t enjoy classical musics get ready to change your minds forever. This show makes you feel the magic of real music and makes your realize what crap Bollywood has been producing these days in the name of music.
Talking about show’s story and plot twists, I would say it is just inch above mediocrity. Plot is pretty straightforward and easily predictable. Story has some major ill-executed plots twists which eradicates elements of surprise. Show also lacks with the strong characters, especially female characters. Show has only two main female characters, both weekly represented. Female protagonist, Tammana, played by Shreya Chaoudhary is modern, independent and country’s pop sensation but her character has no depth and looks bland. Another great character Radhe’s mom, Mohini, played by wonderful actor Sheeba Chadda, is a character of oppressed women who is also exceptionally talented singer but has given up singing for the sake of promise “wachan”. Her story arc has beautiful twists which according to me are very poorly executed. But again, this is the story of music and a family who has dedicated everything to the music. Classical music is used as prop and is done so effectively that as an audience we don’t seem to care much about the story and characters.
Though we all agree that Bandish Bandits is all about its music and background scores. We cannot ignore the fact that Amazon has roped in one hell of a cast. Veteran Nasir Sahab, Sheeba Chaddha, Rajesh Tailang all play their part well. Young people and protagonist in the show Ritwik Bhowmik and Shreya Chaudhary have also played their characters so well. However, it is Kunal Roy Kapoor [Tammana’s manager], Amit Mistry [Radhe’s Chachaji] and Rahul Kumar [Radhe’s Friend] who actually were phenomenal in their part and managed to pull out magic out of story’s hat.
Overall, in the world full of action/crime/drama
flicks Bandish Bandits actually is something which feels refreshing to watch. Director Anand
Tiwari has done terrific work on this. Cinematography is so well done that each scenes seem to be painted on canvas beautifully.
